The new hero cards have really changed Clash Royale a lot. One of the most powerful new heroes is the heroic Giant, who might just be the best tank in the game right now as a whole. In this article I’ll take a quick look at what the new heroic Giant does, then I’ll look at three of the best decks featuring him right now!
Note: The decks featured in this article come from a combination of RoyaleAPI stats and my own experience playing the game.
What Does the Heroic Giant Do?
Heroic Giant’s ability gives him a major defensive upgrade. For just 2 elixir, he picks up a nearby enemy (prioritizing the one with the most HP that he can reach) and throws them to the other side of the arena. This allows him to defend himself against many tank counters like Mini P.E.K.K.A. or Hunter, all for just 2 elixir. This upgrade doesn’t change the way you build Giant decks, but it does give him more power. Good support cards are just as important for a heroic Giant deck as with any other non-heroic Giant deck, so don’t over-rely on his ability. You’re best off considering it a bonus feature.
The heroic Giant plays just like the normal giant, he just has less counters. I’d recommend playing heroic Giant decks mostly the same as any other ones, but having counters for swarms is more important since it’s the only thing the Giant itself can’t deal with now. That’s why cards like Zap are so good along with him when usually other evolutions would be more important.
Heroic Giant + Mini P.E.K.K.A. + Bomber Evo

Cards:
- Bomber (Evo)
- Zap (Evo)
- Giant (Hero)
- Mini P.E.K.K.A. (Hero or Normal)
- Ice Wizard
- Mega Minion
- Heal Spirit
- Rage
This deck is the most popular heroic Giant deck right now, and it’s not hard to see why. This is a very straightforward version of Giant deck, with just a few solid support cards and Mini P.E.K.K.A. as the main defense (with or without the second hero slot). A push with heroic Giant and evolved Bomber doesn’t need much more than a Rage spell or Zap to back it up, so there’s a lot of room to change things up here.
The main change I made from the standard version of this deck was switching Dark Prince for Ice Wizard. While Dark Prince is certainly a good choice for this deck, I just like the bit of extra support from Ice Wizard instead. Feel free to go with the more traditional option though if you like it more. Other than the Ice Wizard, Bomber is definitely the main support troop in this deck. Evolved Bomber just has fantastic range and can clear out any ground swarm with ease, and its damage in general is pretty solid. If Firecracker evolution gets re-buffed at some point I could see it taking Bomber’s place though.
This deck is pretty aggressive, but I’d still call it balanced. You don’t want to waste elixir, so getting caught out by a surprise threat can be very costly. Generally you want to save Giant for when you either have evolved Bomber ready or when your opponent wastes their counter for him. It’s easiest to accomplish that if you utilize some patience, but you also don’t want to sit around waiting the whole game.
Heroic Giant + Bowler + Graveyard

Cards:
- Witch (Evo)
- Snowball (Evo)
- Giant (Hero)
- Mini P.E.K.K.A. (Hero or Normal)
- Graveyard
- Bowler
- Minions
- Arrows
I love a Bowler deck, so I was excited to see this deck performing so well right now. The main appeal here is that it features two big tanks–heroic Giant and Bowler. Giant is fully offensive, but Bowler is more defensive so they balance each other pretty well. Ground-based troops can’t do much against Bowler, so he’s great for either supporting Giant or making his own push. Then Graveyard is the perfect spell to combine with either of them, especially now that it’s been reworked to be more consistent. The main goal with this deck is to get either heroic Giant or the Bowler to an enemy tower, then play Graveyard to take the tower ASAP.
To help Giant and Bowler get to those enemy towers, though, we’ll need some help. The evolved Witch is the best support troop for this deck since she takes care of its air weakness and does a lot of damage. She’s also strong when defending against lower-HP troops. We also have Snowball as the second evolution, which can be either offensive or defensive. It’s good for clearing out troops so Giant and Bowler can get over the bridge, or clumping up attacking troops so they can be taken out easier by spells or Bowler. This deck is a ton of fun to play because of how many answers it has, allowing you to focus on Graveyard spam without worrying too much.
I’d highly recommend playing aggressively here. Graveyard is a win con that typically takes more than one attempt to take a tower out (unless a Giant or Bowler gets to tank for it unopposed). Due to that, you’ll want to keep pushing as much as you can. It’s not the most aggressive deck possible, but it’s close.
Heroic Giant + Sparky

Cards:
- Bats (Evo)
- Zap (Evo)
- Giant (Hero)
- Sparky
- Guards
- Dark Prince
- Magic Archer
- Arrows
For the last deck, we have one featuring Sparky. This deck has seen a lot of play, which isn’t surprising seeing how it’s largely based off the popular Giant Goblin + Sparky deck from the last few years. Sparky is always good as long as it has a tank ahead of it, and heroic Giant is one of the best. With Sparky you have to do everything you can to keep it alive and keep small troops out of its way. Heroic Giant is particularly good at being a tank and throwing annoying troops away, so it might be the best option to tank for Sparky right now.
To help out with keeping Sparky and Giant alive, we have a few valuable cards. Evolved Zap is essential for killing cheap troops like Skeletons or Spirits that distract Sparky. Magic Archer is also good for the same reason, as it’s long range allows it to clear troops long before Sparky wastes its attack. Arrows can do the same thing. Then we also have Dark Prince, Guards, and evolved Bats to defend and backup Giant or Sparky. Everything in this deck works well together, so you don’t have to wait for a specific combination of cards to make a push work.
As with every Sparky deck, you have to play smart. Since it’s so easy to distract Sparky and take it out if played incorrectly, you want to make sure you always have support for it. Evolved Zap makes this very easy, and heroic Giant helps out too in some unique ways. Patience is key, but you also have to balance the risky nature of Sparky. Sometimes it just gets taken out and there’s nothing you can do about it, so you don’t want to wait too long to try and make something happen.
